Blogroll has moved to a new page. It was just too huge (close to 1000 blogs in Bloglines) and helps the page load time tremendously. Blogrolling.com just sucks, and Bloglines has too much. Oh, and I have updated Blogrolling.

Have a nice day!

Lrage shuttle launch from space

Two shots of the shuttle taking off from Florida believed to be taken from the International Space Station. Although some of the discussion says that the altitude is too low. I have no clue.

New Firefox is out!

Updated below and once more into the breach!

It's supposed to be ready for release tomorrow, but there's a build out today that is supposed to be it.

I'm running it, but I can't say that I'm real happy about it either. A lot of my extensions don't work. I can't close a tab(!), either with a middle click (evidently an extension did that), the button on the right that is supposed to close it, or right click on tab title, I've got double icons on the tab title (what the hell is that about?), and when I did try to close a tab through the file menu, it closed Firefox completely.

According to the about box, this is from 10/10/2006, which makes it from two weeks ago. I may have to upgrade again tomorrow.

Yeah, this must be a filler build, because it just doesn't feel right. If it is the correct build...

And another thing, I have three sites for my home pages, only two of them are opening up.

If this is the actual release, it's going to blow up in their face.

<2nd Update>

A neat trick that I see Blogger is doing now is as-you-go spell checking. Yeah Blogger!

I just found out that this is a function of Firefox 2.0, not Blogger! So it definitely belongs in this post, and isn't just an aside.

> Interesting. Firefox sees > as a correctly spelled word.

< Firefox sees < as an incorrectly spelled word.

</2nd Update>

Update!

After disabling a bunch of extensions, things are working a little better.

The extensions that I disable are:

Aardvark
Google Calendar Add-in
Tab Mix Plus
Tabbrowser Preferences
TargetAlert

Now I can close my tabs anyway I want. I just find it odd that the extensions would interfere like that.

Crooks and Liars Countdown Special Comment: Death of Habeas Corpus: “Your words are lies, Sir.”

John Amato writes:
Keith Olbermann has been calling it like it is. His "Special Comments" are indeed special because no other talking head outside of Cafferty is willing to step up to the plate and say what needs to be said on 24/7. '"Your words are lies, Sir." They are lies, that imperil us all.' Sounds about right to me.
Where is the "liberal" media here?

SFGate: World Views : Edward M. Gomez

Edward M. Gomez:

Bush signs torture bill; Americans lose essential freedom

George W. Bush got what he wanted, ostensibly as a tool in his unfocused "war on terror": By signing into law the Military Commissions Act of 2006, Bush has made it legal for the C.I.A. to continue operating torture facilities in undisclosed, foreign countries, and for the writ of habeas corpus to be suspended for individuals who are designated "enemy combatants" against the U.S. (Designated by whom? That question remains unanswered.) The law also "establishes military tribunals that would allow some use of evidence obtained by coercion [that is, torture], but would give defendants access to classified evidence being used to convict them." (Reuters)

The provisions of Bush's new torture law mean that Americans have lost the key, constitutional right on which Anglo-American criminal law (and criminal-law procedures in true democracies in general) is founded; that's the basic right of an individual to know why he or she is being apprehended and detained. Now, technically, as in Stalin's Soviet Union, Hitler's Germany, Mao's China or Pol Pot's Cambodia, anyone labeled an "enemy combatant" - again, by whom; by Bush? - can be whisked away and never heard from again. That kind of authority, in the hands of corrupt or untruthful politicians, may or may not be an effective tool in some kind of "war on terror," but it certainly can be a useful tool when it comes to silencing their opponents.
Emphasis in original. (via BoingBoing)

I have to wonder how fast this is going to get shoved to the SCOTUS. And I have to also wonder just how much of this bill is actually going to stand. I guess we have a fight on our hands now over it.

I saw the President sign this today, or at least a video of it. I wasn't sure what was being signed. I had a feeling it was something ugly, and it was.
