The sticky notes at the front of the page

blue stars for my 3 MPs (no, not my MP3s...)

Blogroll has moved to a new page. It was just too huge (close to 1000 blogs in Bloglines) and helps the page load time tremendously. Blogrolling.com just sucks, and Bloglines has too much. Oh, and I have updated Blogrolling.

Have a nice day!

Fun with LiveWriter

I just published the previous article to both my Live spaces account and my WordPress account using LiveWriter. This is pretty cool. The only thing I don't like is the fact that they don't have a place for the related link that Blogger has. Hell, if they had that, I might be able to come up with something for my Linkblog. This is definitely interesting.

Crooks and Liars » Keith Olbermann Delivers One Hell Of a Commentary on Rumsfeld

Keith Olbermann says:

That government, like Mr. Rumsfeld's, had a monopoly on all the facts. It, too, had the secret information. It alone had the true picture of the threat. It too dismissed and insulted its critics in terms like Mr. Rumsfeld's - questioning their intellect and their morality.
I sure hope that more people would listen to this and may finally realize what this administration is doing to our country. It is not pretty, and it is not going to be pretty to put an end to.

Pausing for a moment to get caught up on personal things

What fun *cough* I'm having at this point

Sometime in July, I went to Villano Beach and fell on some barnacle covered rocks. Where I scraped the inside of my calves, it hurt real bad. But it did heal. I also scraped (I thought) the outside of my left ankle bone. It turned infected soon after my calf scrapings healed, and despite using over 1½ tubes of Neosporin on it, going through one round of antibiotic treatment, and this week starting another week of oral antibiotics and getting a shot of penicillin I am now scheduled with an appointment for the Wound Center here in Orange Park for them to check it out. I'm not running a fever and it is not hurting that bad so the doctors are ready to test me to death.

The_Rose came home last night, as Ernesto didn't cause any problems for her to come home, although her original flight got canceled, so she still flew in latter than expected. She's home for next week as well a good thing.

She has an appointment this afternoon for a CT scan, and she (and I!) are getting a TB skin test next Tuesday. Turns out that both Sparx and Garfield have now tested positive for TB. And if we show positive, then we'll have to get Hattrick and the daughter in for testing as well.

Also on the Sparx/Garfield front, Sparx will now be driving a better armored vehicle. The window he'll have to see through is only 3" x 6". Not a whole lot to see through. I also found out this week that he gets shot at on a daily basis. Snipers are firing at him. Yesterday he finally nailed one that was shooting at him from a mosque tower. I find the use of a mosque tower for a sniping spot to be… unsettling.

Nothing unusual going on with the cats, Loupe is still looking for love, Hairy hounds me for food, Grizelle has been dozing in my room, Greybeard has actually begged for some loving from me, getting up on my shoulders, and rubbing me where ever he can reach from that position, Kitto either just lays around and I scratch him, or he comes to me hollering about something, and the only time I figured out what he wanted was when the water bowl was dry, and Kali just asks for the occasional scratching every now and then.

Update:
Fixed the formatting, I put in </p>s when I should have been putting in <p />s, so I just stuck with Blogger formatting. Since this is where I'm editing it at.

I haven't tried to edit a published post via Live Writer yet.

I'm also finding that for some reason, I'm having trouble with typos. K just fixed a bunch in this post that I wasn't aware of. I still can't believe that Blogger does not have blogger in their dictionary. Sheesh!

The Man in Blue > FormTextResizer: Bookmarklet for resizing textareas and text fields

The Man in Blue:
You know when you're typing an essay into someone else's blog comment form, or you're putting all ten of your middle names into a registration form, and you run out of form field space?

Yeah, it's a bitch to go back and edit, because your text has scrolled off the screen. Well, with the FormTextResizer bookmarklet you can resize that little sucker to be as big as you want.
2nd time. This works for Blogger. I made the bookmark with a keyword (tr) which allows me to use it by doing a ctrl-L and typing the keyword.

Blogger ate my first attempt at this.

I can't believe that I haven't had to update either of Garfield's or Sparx's ranks. They are currently showing as Private First Class (PFC). They should be turning Corporal or Specialist fairly soon.

Simply Recipes: Tortilla Soup Recipe

Elise - Adapted from Muir Glen:
6 (6-inch) corn tortillas, preferably a little old and dried out
1/4 cup grapeseed oil, peanut oil, other high smoke-point oil
1 small onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 medium Anaheim, poblano or jalapeño chile, seeded, veins removed, chopped (Depending on the hotness and flavor desired. You can also mix chiles - 1 Anaheim and a half jalapeño.)

1/2 teaspoon coarse salt (kosher or sea salt)
1 1/2 cups shredded cooked chicken
1 ripe medium avocado
1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese (2 oz) (or other mild, melting cheese)
Chopped fresh cilantro
1 lime, cut into wedges
From Muir Glen.

Looks good. I'll have to try this one.

Katherine Harris

Katherine Harris:
The Bible says we are to be salt and light. And salt and light means not just in the church and not just as a teacher or as a pastor or a banker or a lawyer, but in government and we have to have elected officials in government and we have to have the faithful in government and over time, that lie we have been told, the separation of church and state, people have internalized, thinking that they needed to avoid politics and that is so wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers.
Thank God that people are the actual ones that choose our leaders. I'm aware of no rulers that exist in our government, from local to federal.

It's pretty damn obvious that there isn't a snowball's chance in hell of her winning this election.

Feline update

For Garfield and Sparx.

Yesterday afternoon, I heard a cat hollering in the house. Loupe was already with me, Harry was in the kitchen, Greybeard was on the back of the couch, and finding Kitto and Kali sleeping on my bed, that left either Grizelle or an unknown cat in the house, and I couldn't find it. I didn't think it was Grizelle, because it didn't sound like here, but it did sound like a cat in distress. I found Grizelle in Hattrick's room, hollering at me again. Again, it sounded like she was in distress, but there didn't seem to be anything wrong. She acted like she was trying to get under some books on the floor, and when I picked them up, I found a salamander (I think) under it, and she promptly chased after it. I left her to chase it. Obviously, she had been hollering for help to try to get to the lizard.

Loupe has really been wanting to soak up some loving, which means Harry gets a little jealous. She gets right up on me, while Harry cannot stand to be picked up, even though he does enjoy it from all the purring that he does at least when I do it.

My computer has been crashing lately, getting blue screened. It appears to be a problem with the sound driver, but it's now apparent that Loupe is sleeping on the keyboard, and the system can't handle all those keypresses. This morning, the computer wouldn't even boot, complaining about the partition. I went into the BIOS to check first, and sure enough, the setting for first boot drive was off the DVD drive I had it set to was now pointing to my second hard drive, which is definitely not bootable. That was a quick fix, not a major oops.

A Timeline of the Iraq War

I wish the Bush supporters (not that there seem to be many left at this point) would read this.

It really begs the question of just what the hell are we doing in Iraq.

My Windows Live Write test entry

Interesting. It truly is WSYWIG. I'm seeing my format and my colors as I edit this. This could turn out to be my editor of choice.

Of course, it will be interesting to see what the results of this post are when I look at it in edit mode under Blogger!

Update: Not horribly bad. It put the paragraphs between <p> and </p>, put &nbsp; after each period, but not under the exclamation mark! I took the extraneous stuff out in this edit. It works. It's not exactly pretty (I really don't want the &nbsp; stuff put in there, I can live with the paragraph marking. The other thing was that it took me to my page too fast, and blogger had erased, but not fully uploaded the index page when my browser hit it. Then again, it really wouldn't know anyways. Just a small nit.

Dave Ridley:
"They just came in and threw Russell to the ground and took him," says Kanning’s wife Kat Dillon in a hastily composed web forum message on NHfree.com.
OK, here are the facts that I can determine.

This guy went to a public place to pass out leaflets and got arrested. For the third time in four days.

No explanation of why, no charges, they just threw him into jail.

I'm speechless. Isn't this still the United States of America? Don't we have a constitution in place that deals with freedom of expression, not to mention other things about not throwing somebody in jail just for the hell of it?

You need to stop putting the style information in the span, and set up a formatted div in your CSS. That would make some sense.

Daily Pundit

Bill Quick:
The first administration of the first century of the American Third Millennium will, in my estimation, be remembered as one of the biggest failures of that century. Bush's great failure was, not invading Iraq, but not weathering the adversity that followed through acts of real leadership, and then pressing on with the necessary military destruction of the other regimes he, himself, named as most dangerous five years ago.
Oh, what a wonderful post point to me by Robert Clayton Dean via A rutal takedown @ samizdata.net.

I disagree with Mr. Dean's comment that we may be better off even with what has happened, but I certainly disagree there.

The overtone is still a little to righty for my taste, but I can see a lot more logic in this than the Administration has ever been able to show me. Period!

Update! Bryan, when you are done making up your mind what you were trying to say, revised this entry. Sheesh. sad

Administrivia - Template update

I have updated the template with the new locations of me eldest set of twins. It's a bit over due, but I managed to remember to get it done.

Garfield is back in Ft. Richardson. Weatherpixie and CNN both point to Anchorage for that.

Sparx's Weatherpixie points to the only working Iraq weatherpoint, but CNN's is working, so I've got that one pinned there. Of course, that's assuming that Sparx is still in Baghdad, certainly not a given. He is in Iraq, and that's about all anybody can say about that.
