blue stars for my 3 MPs (no, not my MP3s...)

Blogroll has moved to a new page. It was just too huge (close to 1000 blogs in Bloglines) and helps the page load time tremendously. Blogrolling.com just sucks, and Bloglines has too much. Oh, and I have updated Blogrolling.

Have a nice day!

The Link Blog

Well, I'm working on the Link Blog yet again. Ran a bunch through tonight, and found out I had the old software running. I copied over the latest/greatest, and discovered that I still had some issues. Fixed some of them, and I see that I really still have one more formatting issue to fix (I need a blank line at the end).

And the program is ending before it's supposed to. That's probably an issue with the clexpnd function call. I'm suspecting that at any rate.

It beats trying to rewrite it from scratch, which was I had been trying to do.

Fear destroys what bin Laden could not

From Robert Steinback:
If, back in 2001, anyone had told me that four years after bin Laden's attack our president would admit that he broke U.S. law against domestic spying and ignored the Constitution -- and then expect the American people to congratulate him for it -- I would have presumed the girders of our very Republic had crumbled.
Yeah, that's pretty much the way I feel about it. People are tossing their freedoms and rights away, and saying that it's OK, because we've got a war on, the Great War On Terror.

Funny. Congress still hasn't declared war on anybody. Despite Korea, Vietnam, Gulf I, Gulf II and Afghanistan. And now we've got this war that's not against any country, just against some evident psychos. Does this sound like a war that can be won? How do we know when we've won the war? Hell, have we even trully won the war in Gulf II Iraq? Afghanistan?

The Taliban in Afghanistan are threatening more than 200 suicide bombers against the American presence there I read today. With less than 4 months to go, I'm worrying about Garfield.

I disgress I guess.

Still, when will the talking heads, let alone the American people finally realize that talking about winning a war when there is no goal that indicates the war has been won really isn't talking about a war. It's just litterally a bunch of battles that may have short range objectives, but does nothing for the long range objectives, if there are any. I guess we could call the objective and goal of Gulf II was to get Saddam out of power, but then what?

Flat lists

From Keith Devens
"Flat lists" in CSS

Some handy CSS for doing "flat lists":
.flat-list{
list-style-type: none;
margin-left: 0;
padding-left: 1em;
text-indent: -1em;
}
Now I won't have to look it up ever again. The text-indent combined with padding-left has the effect of indenting wrapped lines of the list, so that even though the list doesn't have "markers" (i.e. bullets or numbers) it's still clear where one list item begins and ends.
I'll have tor try this out sometime. Thanks Keith!

Running Linux Inside Windows

This looks interesting. Run Linux from inside Windows.

Now, I saw this and downloaded a torret of the ISO, but I never saw from the torrents listed what I needed to get an embedded Linux running. Turns out, they don't have a torrent for that. That's pretty stupid IMNSHO, but I managed to get it downloaded via FTP, so now I'll be playing with this.

Garfield116 meets the Veep!

Garfield116 is currently chatting with his mother. He got back from his last mission (to hell evidently), and he got to meet Dick Cheney, the VPOTUS. Cheney called Garfield116 a "chubby PFC." Garfield116 thought he was a Dick. LOL!

Capitol Hill Blue: Bush on the Constitution: 'It's just a goddamned piece of paper'

Doug Thompson:
“Mr. President,” one aide in the meeting said. “There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution.”

“Stop throwing the Constitution in my face,” Bush screamed back. “It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!”
I'm not surprised at this. This says just wonders about the current administration.

None of it good.

403 Forbidden

Google:
We're sorry...

... but we can't process your request right now. A computer virus or spyware application is sending us automated requests, and it appears that your computer or network has been infected.

We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your computer is free of viruses and other spurious software.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we'll see you again on Google.
I'm filing this under stupidity. Mine, not Google's.

The_Rose sent me an Uno game, so I thought I'd be smart, and just rename the thing and then send it to my gmail account. Well, I decided to use .txt. Google caught what was going on, and proceeded to blow that part away, and then it banned my computer (the above) for awhile. No computer virus or spyware, Google, I'm just tyring to get around your protections. I really, really think that with the antivirus you've got working now, dropping the rule against executables would be nice. But hey, OK, I'll play by your rules. And I'll just keep rarring things up, since you don't handle RARs. And if push comes to shove, if you start scanning those, I've got some old DOS archivers that I'm sure you'll never check for (.zoo comes to mind, but there are definately others…)

Think Progress » The Straight Truth About the Bush Economy

Gene Sperling:
But it’s downright misleading to ignore the economy’s weaknesses so the White House can falsely claim their fiscally reckless tax policy is an unequivocal success. When it comes to economic policy, President Bush is like the football coach with a 4-12 record who wants to tell you how his strategy has led to the four victories while pretending he has had an immaculate season. So if the President wants to claim his tax cuts have been the primary cause of our current economic performance since the end of the recession in November 2001, here are a few more economic facts he might want to consider.
This is a fantastic read.

It describes pretty much what I feel is going on in the economy as far as I'm feeling it. This brings up quite a few issues that the people that are trying to crow about in this economy should actually pay attention to. Of course, they won't. I'll break down some of it.

Wages — Negative growth, even as this is supposed to be a recovery. $/hr, $/week, $/yr. This is not good. Inflation isn't bad *cough*bullshit*cough*. Especially if you take out food, fuel and housing. And (especially!) Americans don't have to deal with those piddling things. Oops, take away an American's food, fuel and housing, and you've pretty much wrecked the American dream now, haven't we? We can't eat to excess, drive where ever the hell we want to, and have our nice house.

Employment growth — Let's just say that this is pretty much the worst growth ever for a recovery. Makes me wonder if we really truly are in a recovery. The point is also made that the effective unemployment rate is more than 6%, not the 5% that is reported.

Poverty — Poverty rate has risen since Bush has been President, compared to when it was dropping when we had Clinton in office. African-Americans an children are also jumping up in poverty rates. This is also the only recovery on record where poverty increased between the 2nd and 3rd years. I'll repeat myself, are we in a recovery?

Savings — Personal savings rates are negative, -2.18% in August this year. This family isn't doing that this year, but we sure did that last year. Thinking about it, I guess we weren't quite that bad off, but we sure did shuffle around a lot of money. It was probably a wash. Record percentages of disposable income are now used to service debt (note, that's not neccessarily to pay off debt, that's to at least pay the interest, which with a lot of credit card debt at 18% rates, one has to wonder…) My question is, should that really be considered disposable income then? When Bush took office, net national savings was short of 5%. It's now at 1% this quarter, lowest since the Great Depression. Are we in a recovery yet?? The CBO in January 2001 predicted a 5 trillion dollar surplus in 10 years. Goldman Sachs 5 years later is predicting a 5 trillion dollar deficit over the next 5 years. What the hell happened there? Bush's tax cuts, that's what happened. Our current account deficit with the rest of the world is horrible. We are expecting foreigners to lend us 3 billion dollars a day! What's going to happen when the dollar plummets? How far will it drop before we find out we can't afford this direction of action?

Are we in a recovery yet?

And some great comments as well. Read it all.
