Blogroll has moved to a new page. It was just too huge (close to 1000 blogs in Bloglines) and helps the page load time tremendously. Blogrolling.com just sucks, and Bloglines has too much. Oh, and I have updated Blogrolling.

Have a nice day!

"Outsourced bank agency commits credit card fraud" from The Real Life Debt Blog

Anonymous:
Another scam alert from a reader that's worth sharing...

I'm "brave", I make on-line payments, enjoying the instant gratification and feel it may be safer than post office mail. But a couple months ago, I was down to the wire, it was storming badly, so I telephoned my payment to the phone number on a credit card statement. A few weeks later I received a call from the "verification" Dept. asking if we had made a $1000. purchase, which we had NOT.

We were then transfered to the Fraud Investigation Dept. who explained that it looked suspicious, since soon followed our account being paid off, we had a healthy credit limit, and it was in the vicinity of where there had apparently been previous fraud purchases.

From what I could gather, the telephone payment process had been outsourced in an effort to save money.

Needless to say - these outsource companies do not have the security checks required on bank employees that we believed we were intrusting our personal information to. We told them to immediately close the new account & never issue cards.
There's more to this story (it gets even better actually). I really, really hope we find out which credit card company did this.

I'm a Geek!

Pure Geek
47 % Nerd, 52% Geek, 26% Dork
For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.

You scored better than half in Geek, earning you the title of: Pure Geek.

It's not that you're a school junkie, like the nerd, and you don't really stand out in a crowd, like the dork, you just have some interests that aren't quite mainstream. Perhaps it's anime, perhaps it's computers, perhaps it's bottlecaps, perhaps it's all of those and more. Your interests take you to events and gatherings that are filled with people you find unusual and beyond-the-pale, but you don't quite consider yourself "of that crowd." Instead, you consider yourself to be fairly normal.

Which, you are.

Congratulations! You're the one on the RIGHT!

NOLA - All your base are gonna belong to us!

Katrina is looking to put down some major pwnage on New Orleans early this morning, if it isn't already.

Some blogs I'm reading - Kaye's Hurricane Blog - Met her at at a podcast meet up in Gainesville, along with Dave Winer, who isn't even in Florida at this point.

insomnia is also blogging this from NOLA.

There's also the beadcam going right now (sometimes it times out) WWL is webcasting their coverage of the weather.

It's a mess. I don't know what we would be doing if this where happening here in Jacksonville. We're not real close to the coast, but the St. Johns river is only about a quarter mile away. If a strong storm surge were to hit the First Coast, I'm sure the St. Johns would also take the surge hit.

Chef Shane on Seafood Blog - Baked Shrimp with Feta Cheese

Chef Shane on Seafood Blog - Baked Shrimp with Feta Cheese:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon chopped garlic
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 28-ounce can peeled and diced tomatoes
1 (3.25-ounce) jar capers, drained
1 pound peeled and de-veined shrimp
4 ounces crumbled feta cheese

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the Olive oil, garlic, oregano and red pepper flakes. Saute briefly; without allowing the garlic to brown, approximately 2 minutes. Add the tomatoes, stirring well, and bring to a boil. Cook at a rapid simmer, stirring frequently, until the juices are reduced and the sauce is slightly thickened, approximately 5 minutes. Add the capers and season to taste with salt and black pepper. Spread half of the sauce in a baking dish and top with the shrimp. Top with the remaining sauce and sprinkle with the crumbled feta. Bake for approximately 15 to 20 minutes, or until bubbling hot and shrimp are pink.

J-Walk Blog Link Experiment

The J-Walk Blog: Attention Bloggers!

This is an experiment.

If this had been the real thing, I would be reading your mind right now.

Or I'd be drinking it. The real thing, that is. I don't think your mind would be that tasty.

Since j-walkblog is in my blogroll, which is done using generated HTML via PHP instead of the original Javascript, I should be part of the estimated 90%.

An Austrian virus writer has published five simple viruses targeting Microsoft MSH in a virus writing magazine. These proof-of-concept viruses will never became a real-world problem, but the case is interesting historically, as these are the first viruses for a totally new platform.
How 'bout this as a CMD.EXE virus.

VERGENNES, Vt. —A worker in the returns department at Country Home Products got a return and a surprise when he opened a brush trimmer sent back from South Carolina. Inside the box was the trimmer - and five kittens.
