Blogroll has moved to a new page. It was just too huge (close to 1000 blogs in Bloglines) and helps the page load time tremendously. Blogrolling.com just sucks, and Bloglines has too much. Oh, and I have updated Blogrolling.

Have a nice day!

Magnesium recycling plant blows...

From Ohio News Network:
Two huge blasts about 7:15 Monday night shot white sparks into the air and sent several firefighters running. The explosions broke windows at Garfield Club Apartments on a hill overlooking the plant, prompting authorities to call for the evacuations.
I used to work at GRiD computers, where we had laptops that were made out of a magnesium alloy. A customer (from Battelle IIRC) asked us about what kind of contingency plans we had if our laptops caught on fire. See, you can't use water on a magnesium fire, it just makes it worse. So the big joke after that (running throughout the company) was that we would now be requiring all new computer stores to have these big earthen pits to fling our laptops into if they ever managed to catch on fire. (see this for more info).

Army Stops Many Soldiers From Quitting (washingtonpost.com)

From Army Stops Many Soldiers From Quitting (washingtonpost.com):
'It reflects the fact that the military is too small, which nobody wants to admit,' said Charles Moskos of Northwestern University, a leading military sociologist.
I see the administration has also shown a big desire to screw over the American soldiers that are doing their bidding in the war in Iraq. Cut benefits, keep them activated past what the contract says. Yeah, it really makes me want to send more young people that way. Not!

I dread to think what would happen if the US was forced to deploy yet even more troops to say, North Korea.

Attacks Force Retreat From Wide-Ranging Plans for Iraq (washingtonpost.com)

From Attacks Force Retreat From Wide-Ranging Plans for Iraq (washingtonpost.com):
The United States has backed away from several of its more ambitious initiatives to transform Iraq's economy, political system and security forces as attacks on U.S. troops have escalated and the timetable for ending the civil occupation has accelerated.
Sad. The current administration is so intent on making sure that they get the US out of Iraq on their timetable, they don't care if they leave the Iraqi people hanging in the wind.

I have to agree with this commentary as well.

What a sucky Christmas

Christmas didn't go over too well this year.

Sparx was missing. But The_Rose did have him talked into coming over for desert Christmas Eve night. Then Garfield had to call him up and bitch, and there went even the ghost of a chance of that happening. I don't care if Garfield or Deb or anybody else says that there was no chance of Sparx coming over, Garfield raising hell with him guaranteed that he wouldn't.

The_Rose and I had a fight that night. Over something I have to call silly, if not stupid. And attacking me about it at 1AM after I've spent a lot of my day in feverish hallucination really didn't help matters for me. I left. I almost went to her, and screamed, "Yes, I'm all those things that you say I am, so I guess I should just leave!". I didn't say boo instead. I went off for a drive. Drove to a beach, where I thought it would be warmer. Temperature must have been in the low 40's, upper 30's, with a good wind going. In my shorts and short sleeves, I just had way too much exposed skin to be able to deal with it. Of course, being sick (still) didn't help me in the least either. I finally came back home about 4:30AM. I slept in Garfield's room since he had decided to sleep in the TV room. I got up later, and managed to fall asleep in my chair in the TV room. I almost went to the ER instead of home. I swear I had walking pneumonia, the way I was weezing away that night (and that morning).

We got things straightened out between us. I understand why she got upset. I also explained a few things to her of why some things happened the way they did.

But I swear if I have another Christmas like this one, or the year before, bytehead won't be doing any more Christmases. It's already a bad time for me mentally, and adding the crap that's been going on really is making me rethink things.

The day after Chrismas, I got hit with the question "Would you give up your computers for me?" I gave her the only possible answer there could be. She choose not to believe me. Talk about your lose-lose scenario.

The fight was our first fight that we've had. Ever. I guess that's pretty amazing for some people after 2 ½ years of marriage. We tend to have things worked out before we get to that point. We tend to agree with each other on a lot of things. This fight... Eh... It wasn't much of a fight, I wouldn't even call it a fair fight (1AM in the morning with somebody who's sick and has not been in their right mind) as I really didn't get a chance to respond. I just got mad.

I'm sure that there's more fallout to come from this Christmas. And I'm not looking forward to it.

Today...

is my birthday! 46 years old. I'm starting to feel those years, too. Damn body is starting to creak. Joints popping most of the time, it's disgusting.

The_Rose came through her 2nd biopsy today. She's hurting more today than the 1st one. But they are sure they got the lump. They sent what they got straight to the pathologist to make sure. Although what I didn't understand was that The_Rose was saying that everything looked normal. But if it looked normal, how do they know they got the damn lump? If the CT scan shows a lump shouldn't it look at least somewhat different?

Well, get something to drink, and then get back to bed and sleep.

An update of massive destruction. Or not.

A great(?) day for Iraq!

Today we get the news that Saddam has been captured. Of course, it wouldn't surprise me if it turned out that it was a body double either. C'est la vie!

Prodigal Son returns!

Sparx came over and visited for the second time today. The first time was yesterday. He now has his license. From what he said, the GF's family has given him two weeks to find a job. Should be quite interesting to see if he does manage that. I've also heard, but not from him, that he is officially engaged. I've already told The_Rose that if I hear one complaint, I'm not going to be talking too kindly to the GF's family. My tactlessness will be in full force when (not if!) that happens.

TV Room Cleaned! Film at 11:00!

We got the TV room cleaned without the help of the little ones, despite having been told Wednesday or Thursday that they were expected to be here, not at their dad's and help clean. They went to their dad's anyway. I wasn't happy about, The_Rose wasn't happy about it, and Garfield caught hell because he didn't get an OK from anybody to take them anywhere. He claimed that he called The_Rose and she was fine with it. Not even close. Then, after getting the room clean and just about ready to set the tree up, Garfield had to have a major meltdown. In a nutshell, we got the room cleaned, but we didn't get the tree up.

Speaking of people who need an attitude adjustment...

Garfield needs to really, really, really understand that he is on the last straw with both The_Rose and I. One more blow up like today, and he's not going to be living here. He didn't get the message last weekend, but I've been given orders to make sure that he understands that tomorrow.

There must be a bullseye on The_Rose and I to be ripped off...

I wrote about Sparx leaving before, but one of the things that I didn't talk about was the discover in fact that one of The_Rose's savings accounts got drained. I found the statement for that month (it was hidden, interestingly enough, and my daugher found it) today. It looks like about $900 in all was stolen from that account. This is more than the original $200 that The_Rose caught when she tried to make a withdrawal and found out the account had been emptied. It's obvious now who the culprit is, but I'm not naming names right now.

Flu? Who knows.

I'm sleeping an inordinate amount of time. I have a feeling that I'm fighting the flu. I'm not running a fever.

I really don't know what to do with Garfield. We had a big fight last week over lost money (I see I didn't blog it either). His side of the story is that somehow I "lost" it. Funny thing is, I do know where I had the money, and what I had it in hadn't moved till after The_Rose discovered it missing. Other reports coming in as basically confirming my side of things. The stealing, the lying, I thought most if not all that crap were going to be gone once Sparx left. That certainly hasn't been the case.

Garfield has lost all respect, not just for me, but The_Rose as well. To which I have to say fine. But don't expect me to try and make it pleasant for him to live around here when such is the case. He can move his ass to his dad's. I already know the answer to that one. He wants the use of my car. I don't think that is going to happen anymore. I've already bitched about the pop that was strewn throughout my car, and his protestation that he didn't do it is trully bullshit. He's the only other person that has been driving my car, and for him to complain about my bitching about is trully bullshit as well. He needs to wake up, and take some responsibility for once.

Teoti

Teoti otherewise known as The End Of The Internet but actually got its name from Teotihuacan, the birthplace of gods, is currently down. It's been needing to be on its own server for some time, and it looks like xix will have it installed sometime tomorrow. The actuall name of the server is going to be zeus.teoti.com, a fitting name!

BTW, this is a picture of the god that I chose myself to be on the original T1 (T4 may be up with the new server. Or not.).

I goes along with some of the mini-domokuns at the left.

The other prodigal son

Sparx called today. Feeling bored and I'm sure quite a bit lonely. Now he has his quiet that he thought he just had to have. I think he now misses the activity that goes on around here. He is supposed to be taking his drivers license test tomorrow. I have no idea if he's truly ready. I have no idea how he's going to pay for insurance. He's mad at The_Rose for not following up on taking him out to breakfast sometime. He's supposed to call tonight to talk to her.

Blah! Sunday!

Well, blogger.com is down, so I can't post anything.

So I'm writing this in my text editor. It's probably better this way, as it does syntax highlighting, so I know if my "s are balanced and what not.

Garfield and I had a fight today. He's been an absolute asshole to everybody in the house. He claims he hasn't, but my experience is that he has been. I told him I wanted him out of the house, which as far as I was concerned meant, get the hell out of my face. He thought I meant like out, permanently. I also told him that he was acting just like his brother Sparx. He claimed I was too. I do nothing but bitch. That's a quote. I've already had these arguments with his brother. He really doesn't want to see what happens if I really do nothing.

That fact of the matter is that things between his mother and myself are exactly that, between the two of us. They are not any of his business. He sticks his nose into plenty of stuff that he has no business getting into. I know Deb has told him so, repeatedly. Talking to him at times is like talking to a brick wall. He bosses the little ones around, despite the fact that The_Rose and I have repeatedly told him not to. He's decided that he can be a better or more attentive parent than what we seem to be.

Monday
I found out that he went crying to Deb yesterday, and she hung up on him. We've been getting along better since the fight. He still didn't get his chores done like he was asked. I had to get the garbage out to the street myself this morning despite having been told to do it last night. It didn't get out last Thursday, so it had to get out today.1 My mood is better, but I'm sure it could get ugly with the right amount of pressure.

1Here in Florida, trash is picked up twice a week. In my case, it's Monday and Thursday mornings. Recycling is Monday morning only. Yard waste pickup is Wednesday morning. My tax dollars at work.

New router!

Yeah!
I got a Linksys wireless router. I'm getting better signal strength out of it. And it works.

Boo!
I can't configure it the way I had things with the Linksys. I've tried chatting with support (didn't understand my question, and told me how to clone my MAC, which I already had to do to get on the freaking Internet, and then promptly hung up on me) So now I've tried emailing support. We'll see how that goes. D-Link seems to be the better choice in this matter. Sigh.

OMFG!

I just spent quite a time on the phone with a lawyer from Ameritech (now SBC). Asking about a former coworker, Ijoma Flemister. In short, an Ameritech vehicle rear ended him. He's now filling suit against them for pain and emotional damages (according to the Ameritech), and they wanted me to talk about him. I gave them what I could remember, which I don't think helped their case at all. The names thrown at me, Tony Bachman, Bill Calderone, and the names that I threw back, Ruth Ann Wright, Robert Morris. His Alford plea and felony conviction from that was discussed. Ye Gods! what I a time I had dredging that up!

What a night

I lost my internet connection tonight. I thought it was Comcast's fault. It's looking more like it's the D-Link router that is failing. Can't say that I'm too surprised. It's been 6 months since the lightning strike to the house. I've upgraded the firmware, and it still won't connect. I just connect it to my computer, and it works, no problem. :( Another expense not needed. I'd really like another one, and NOT a DI714P, so I can connect my modem to it. If I have to. If I can find one.

Found out that our neighbors also have a WLAN setup. SSID says that it's a linksys. Garfield's bedroom is close enough to their house to get coverage. So while I was out, he was still connected.

Blah!

Sparx

Sigh.

I get a phone call yesterday from Sparx. He has a job, welding dog cages. He was tired, he had worked 4 hours that day, and he was supposed to be working from 9A-7PM today. I get a call from him today around 3:30 telling me that his brother needs to stop calling him. Garfield gets home at 4, and calls him before I get a chance to say squat, and Garfield gets told to hang up.

Now the issue I have, what happened to the job then?
