Magnesium recycling plant blows...

From Ohio News Network:
Two huge blasts about 7:15 Monday night shot white sparks into the air and sent several firefighters running. The explosions broke windows at Garfield Club Apartments on a hill overlooking the plant, prompting authorities to call for the evacuations.
I used to work at GRiD computers, where we had laptops that were made out of a magnesium alloy. A customer (from Battelle IIRC) asked us about what kind of contingency plans we had if our laptops caught on fire. See, you can't use water on a magnesium fire, it just makes it worse. So the big joke after that (running throughout the company) was that we would now be requiring all new computer stores to have these big earthen pits to fling our laptops into if they ever managed to catch on fire. (see this for more info).
